Head of Department : Dr. Samuel Wesley
The Department of History is one of the oldest Departments of Smt. Chandibai Himathmal Mansukhani College. It is also a University recognized Research Centre. It caters to the First year, Second Year and Third Year students of History.In 2018-2019 History Subject has been restarted in XIthArts. The papers taught deal with World History, Ancient India, History of Asia, Medieval India, Modern India, Archaeology, Museology and Library Science, Contemporary World, Regional History, Contemporary India, History of Marathas and Resarch Methodology.
All these varied branches of History help the students who are preparing for a career in teaching, research, civil services, law, journalism, archaeology, museology, library science, numismatics, epigraphy, diplomatic and international relations, travel and tourism, and the general industry.
The Department has a long tradition of dedicated and committed teachers who have constantly set high standards and at the same time remained approachable and empathetic to the students. The syllabus has undergone changes from time to time and therefore there is need to reinforce the resources of the department, which would equip the students and keep them in tune with changing times.
History
The founder Head of the Department was Prof. Sachdev under whose guidance the department took strong roots and provided learning and many opportunities to students of the then generation. He was the founder of the N.S.S and the founder in charge of the Foundation Course paper.
He was followed by Dr. Shalini Saksena. She was a research guide for several doctoral students who successfully completed their doctoral degrees. Under her tenure she conducted various programmes and seminars for students and teachers. In her period Bachelor of Mass Media course was started in the College. Even after her retirement Dr. Saksena has been publishing papers and books.
In 2006, Prof. Neelu Bhatia took over. She completed her M.Phil on ‘Settlement of Parsees in Bombay, 1661’. She also has been the in charge of the Foundation Course papers, co-ordinator for the survey project work, Founder Director of the UGC sponsored Gandhian Studies Center at Smt. C.H.M College.
In 2009, Prof. Amita Grover took over as Head Of Department. she was in charge of UGC Merged Scheme for SC/ST/OBC/Minority, Member of Examination Committee.
From Aug 2016, Prof. Renu Sachdev has taken over as the Head of Department. She is the In-Charge of Foundation Course since 2009. She is also the Coordinator of Travel and Tourism Dual Degree Course since 2009. She has been teaching Post Graduate Classes as well. She was the chairperson of Arts Forum in 2013-2014, Prospectus Committee in 2018-2019 and Co-Chairperson of Prospectus Committee in 2017-2018.

• Students are oriented about the career opportunities through these visits in the fields of archaeology, museology, library science, epigraphy, numismatics, art history, conservation, Travel and Tourism and heritage management.

• History Department in Association with Sadhu Vaswani Mission Ulhasnagar Condicted Peasce Rally in Commemoration of Sadhu T. L. Vaswani's Birth Anniversary which is observed as Meatless Day Prof Renu Sachdev was the Co-ordinator of this Rally.
