About the Department:
The quality of a College is measured more by the kind of students it turns out than the kind it takes in. True to these words, CHM College has been shaping successful professionals and responsible citizens for decades. Established in 1965, this time tested academic institution has been providing a stage for thousands of aspiring students to realise their potential and excel in all walks of life.
Founded in the year 1999, the Department of Management Studies has since been a centre for learning and development. It has been constantly metamorphosing itself to be at the forefront of the evolutionary academic entity on one side and skilled human resource provider to the corporate world on the other by running the course titled “Bachelor of Management Studies” (BMS) under the affiliation of the University of Mumbai. Department offers specializations in the domains of Finance, Marketing and Human Resources.
Over the years there has been a constant endeavour by the department to encourage the studentss to raise the bar to accomplish the most ambitious of their aspirations. BMS@CHM takes great pride in the fact that our students do not look to others to demarcate the limit of their success. Instead, they turn to their own dreams and aspirations to define goals fresh – thus scaling newer summits, time and again.
BMS @CHM believes that the placements of all the students at the end of BMS programme is a natural outcome. Over the years our alumni have not only made their marks in their respective sectors and held high positions but also have effectively utilised the knowledge and culture gained, to be good professionals as well as good human beings.
As it is characteristic of every dynamic person to move forward to highest accomplishment out of inner drive, BMS@CHM has always endeavoured to ignite this drive in students and give a direction through various extra curricular activities and cultural events. These events not only give the students a platform to exhibit their talents but also an opportunity to comprehend what drives success stories.
Department has been able to manage its functions under the auspices of a well-managed team comprising of Head of Department, Core Faculties, Visiting Faculties and Guest Lecturers. With the constant support of College Administration, and more specifically, under the leadership of Principal Dr. Manju Lalwani Pathak, the Department has been able to raise its standards and has created the vibrant learning environment for the students.

These activities are planned much in advance and are then mentioned in the Academic Calendar of the Department which is prepared in line with the institutional calendar. Apart from these regular activities, department also is known for its annual features. There are some activities and events which are organised every year and are considered as Department Best Practices. These annual features of the Department are as follows:

Being a part of interactive learning, such educational visits give students a major exposure to real working environments along with a practical perspective of a theoretical concept relevant to their domain. Since the inception of the program, Department has been organising industrial visits every year. In past, department has organised Industrial Visits at Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Pune, Goa, Aurangabad, Silvassa. Some of the noteworthy industries visited by them are Amul, Parle, Coca-Cola, Pepsi, Foster Beer, Kingfisher, Dairy Cooperatives, ITC Grand Hotel, Go Cheese, Nilkamal, and many more.

3) Parlance: Parlance is the annual fest of BMS. This fest deciphers the true model of student Leadership Initiative. Parlance is a fest of the BMS, for the BMS and by the BMS. The best part of the whole day long event is that it is managed independently by students. The fest is organised by the students from Second Year of the program under the guidance and advisory of students from Third Year and the students from First Year participate with full zeal and energy. Activities like Ad Mad Show, Blind Fold, Finance Treasure Hunt, Mock Interview, Debates, Extempore, etc are carried out under the banner of Parlance. The program aims at learning and applying of leadership, team building and other managerial skills among the students.

4) Green Day: Environmentalism is an ideology that evokes the necessity and responsibility of humans to respect, protect, and preserve the natural world from its anthropogenic (caused by humans) afflictions. Environmental awareness is an integral part of the movement’s success. By spreading awareness to others that the physical environment is fragile and indispensable, we can begin fixing the issues that threaten it. To sensitize the young minds towards environmental issues, Department every year conducts Green Day wherein students participate with much vigour and zeal. They learn and then create awareness among the local community members about reduce, reuse and recycle. Through community development projects, students carry out Tree plantation, and Awareness campaigns and also arrange Gifting Tree and Best out of Waste competitions among themselves. This enables the learners to behave responsibly towards the environment.

5) Research Events: For educational institutions, the research component allows for a broader educational experience whereby students are able to explore the effects of applying new thought processes through study and testing. Students are able to use that experience to see the practical application of their classroom experience represented in research projects. Department of Management studies believes in creating and maintaining strong research culture among students. Over the years, the research carried out an Undergraduate level has become the USP of the department as well as the college. Department organizes various research promotional events like organising of research workshops for students, organising research symposia and encouraging students to participate in research events within the college as well as outside the campus. Every year students are encouraged to participate in HSNC Board’s prestigious event titled as “International Economics Convention” wherein students present their research papers and compete with the national and international teams.
